See a pretty picture first
Budapest, Hungary. Parliament. Really impressive building in person. Go see it if you can.
Our fearless leader is about go to meet NoKo fearless leader. I was thinking...
Say the year was 1943 or there abouts. Hitler says. OK OK. I’ll stop killing and invading. I want to meet and discuss my stopping killing and invading as long as you can promise no regime change.
I am not saying Kim Jong Un is worse than Hitler. I’m just saying with all the crimes against humanity by both. What would the world have said to that? Would the leaders sat down to meet? Would they have agreed that if one was to stop the war crimes, they can continue ruling? Would the world leaders have said as long as you stop, we can do business with you?
What are you thinking?

That’s a really interesting question. I have no idea. Things are so different now, globalization, easier to deploy a lot of firepower, more countries with a lot of firepower...
I just don’t know. But it is interesting to think about.

I’m thinking how do they reunify a peninsula with two heads of states into a peninsula with one head of state?

I think most/all allies would have laughed at this and said... sure come on down to this dark room with lots of soldiers in it. We’ll talk.

Right... so there is no way this whole Don’t change regime prerequisite is possible...
You either have to remove south korean government which is a no go because how can we work with leader of NOKO who just took over SOKO without firing a shot...
or we have to remove NOKO leader which defeats prerequisite.
I don’t understand....
OK. Let’s pretend there are now two countries. SOKO and NOKO. Fine. Nothing new. What does reunification mean... really? Just that the tanks at DMZ are gonna turn around and go back to inactive duty?

Hitler did attempt to stop war at least with the British but the attempt was soundly rejected because he had to pay for his crimes and the only thing at stake was the British Isles which were quite simply impossible for the Nazis to take.
As for Korea, the stakes are much higher, namely the nukes and enough artillery to flatten Seoul within 15 minutes. Plus it’s been so long, peace going forward is seemingly preferable to seeking justice.

I don’t know how that would have been possible to stop warring with just one country and continue warring with slew of others.
Just because it’s been long, doesn’t mean families have forgotten their lost loved ones. Hard labor work camps still exist in NOKO. I don’t think anyone forgot Warmbier.
I agree that seeking peace is important, but I don’t know how we turn blind eye to all the crimes committed and hold hands with kim and skip along like nothing ever happened.

The offer was at the point when it just Britain against the Axis powers. After that the Nazis attacked the Soviets and the Japanese attacked the US since attacking the British Empire was getting no where. Just like North Korea.
Sometimes you just have to move on because the current handling of matters isn’t going to close the labour camps. Plus let’s be real, plenty of worst crimes have been forgiven by the world in order to move on. Look at Rwanda.

Reunification means they’ll hopefully toss the DMZ, clear out the mines and open trade.

I am not very familiar with world’s relationship with Rwanda. Personally, it’s going to be a century or 10 before I go on vacation to Rwanda.

Fascinating. Still not going there.
Countless countries out there where a country climbs out of being a shit hole because of one decent leader. People get mad the leader did something off color once in a dark room at night. Kill the leader and country is back to being a shit hole.
I need about 2-5 centuries of stability before I go visit it. one or two wars are acceptable. genocide practitioners need not apply

I don’t think that’s ever going to happen. But if negotiations stop NK from continuing to try to develop nuclear weapons, there’s a plan in place to deal with all the refugees who will flee south, and we can stop the abuses going on in NK, it makes sense. Plus it reduces China’s influence as we will no longer have to rely on China to reign in NK.

1st I’ve heard someone infer Trump is a Neville Chamberlain. They were allowed to get nukes and ICBMs. Maybe they can combine them, maybe they can’t, but it’s too late to ignore it. The only two options left are talk or war.
